The Devil and The Forces of Darkness
ETN - Thank you for joining me. Today we will be discussing Demons & The Forces of Darkness. The first thing I want to make super clear is that many Christians don't think about the fact that when we agre
Now not everything is Demonic or an attack from Satan. Some people think there is a Demon under every rock. Some people point to every sickness or disease as being demonic when in reality, we live in a fallen world. We are fallen beings, and terrible things that can and do happen are a product of our sin and the fallen world we live in and not always the results of demonic activity.
One of the biggest questions someone might ask is who is the Devil is and where did he came from? Isaiah 14:12-14 says, "How you are fallen from Heaven. O, shining star, son of the morning. You have been thrown down to earth, you who destroyed the nations of the world. For you said to yourself, 'I will ascend to Heaven and set my throne above God's stars. I will preside on the mountains of gods, far from the north. I will climb to the highest heavens and be like the most high."
Revelation 12-7 says this. "There was a war in Heaven, Michael and his angels fought against the dragon and his angels and the dragon lost the battle, and he and his angels were forced out of Heaven. This great dragon, the ancient serpent, called the Devil or Satan. The one who deceives the whole world was thrown down to the earth with all of his angels."
So there was a war in Heaven where the Devil tried to take over. He tried to take God's place. Satan and his angels were defeated and cast out of Heaven.
There is a lot of misconception when talking about the influence of the forces of darkness over a Christian. Despite what may be popular in movies and fictional writing, a Christian can not be possessed. Jesus himself says a house divided can not stand. When we are sanctified, we are filled with the holy spirit. We are indwelt with the spirit. The Holy Spirit would not be housed with an evil force. Now, while a demon can not possess a Christian, a Christian can be under a Demon's influence. We must walk in light. If we follow Jesus, we must do the things Jesus would do. Part of that is walking in righteousness. It is turning from our sins. Our sins are how the forces of darkness can get a foothold on us.
Scripture tells us if we resist the Devil, he will flee from us (James 4:7). We are told to put on the full armor of God (Ephesians 6:10-18).
Ephesians 6:12 is clear that our conflict with the Devil is spiritual. When we follow these instructions faithfully, we can have victory no matter the Devil's strategy.
I want to point out two things most Christians forget in their spiritual battle. Many Christians only take a defensive position in the spiritual realm. When we take about armor, people generally think about a defensive posture, but we must remember the last things mentions in these verses. One is the sword of the spirit, and the other is prayer. Both of these are defensive and they are offensive weapons. We are not only called to withstand the onslaught of the enemy. We are called to advance against the forces of darkness. That's what an offensive weapon is for! It's important we use the sword of the spirit in our spiritual battle and not just remain in a defensive posture, and we must be in constant prayer.
We are called to live in victory! Not because of what we have done but because of what Jesus has done for us!
