Why is There Evil in the World
ETN - Articles like this are essential to Christians. As we get closer and closer to the end time, there will be more and more calamity on earth and an increase of evil. Many nonbelievers will look for answers to questions like this. It's our job as Christians to be prepared and be able to give an answer for our faith (1 Peter 3:15).
Here's a question people often struggle with, why is there evil in the world if there is a God, and why does he allow evil?
We are all impacted by evil. Evil/Sin leads us to look to God for answers. It even leads nonbelievers to look to God for answers and many to even question His existence.
So how can an all-loving - all-powerful God allow evil, pain, and suffering?
First we must understand, we are in a spiritual battle on earth. Scripture tells us the Devil is roaming the Earth to see whom he may devour and, God allows humans to make choices, He gives us free will, even though He knows our choices ahead of time. He is sovereign, and he gives us free will. The question is, could God make a universe where there was no evil (sin)? Absolutely, but if He did, there would be no free will. A world lacking freewill is a world of robots and puppets. A world of robots is a world INCAPABLE OF LOVE. You see, love is a choice.
With humanity having free will, we are given the ability to choose God or deny Him. With free will, we are given the opportunity to commit loving acts or acts of evil. These evil acts impact us and others.
1 John 4:8 tells us….. God is love
Love is only genuine if it's freely chosen. God gave us the ability to choose to love each other and Him, but with that, we have the ability to choose the opposite.
All most all the pain and evil in the world is human evil, human sin causes pain.
God allowed Adam and Eve to make their choices in the garden. Their sin brought chaos and suffering into the world and permeates to today. The Bible even tells us the ground is cursed because of humanity's sin. So why does God allow suffering and pain in the world? It's because we choose it. God loves us enough to allow us to choose.
But that's not all, the Bible tells us and promises he will create a new heaven and a new earth, where there will be no more pain, suffering, or death. Then man's sin will be gone, and God will dwell with humanity forever and ever.
God does not want pain and suffering, but God allows humanity to make their choices. These sinful choices will be brought under his judgment. Jesus made a sacrifice on the cross for all those who believe and follow him. God allows us to sin, but he judges sin, and there must be payment for sin.
We are free to love others and God. Our sin results in consequences that lead to pain and suffering. Our Sinful choices have spiritual consequences, which is God's judgment of sin.
Pain and suffering are the results of our sin in the world. Even though God allows pain and suffering caused by our sin, God can judge sin justly. So while God is love, God is also Just. It is part of His character, He can't just overlook our sin, He is a perfect and Holy God.
Even though God allows suffering, he overcomes it. He is our strength and our salvation.
This is a broad topic, and there is a lot more to it, but I hope this might give someone encouragement and insight if they have struggled with this question.
